The Shawshank Redemption - A movie
I watched this film for the second time last month and I have to say it is a classic by my definition. The strength of the story is in its powerful message and the moral that ca not be missed. I was not surprised to find it on the list of the Top 100 movies of all time.
An executive banker Andy Dufresne is sentenced to life imprisonment for a crime he did not commit. He is placed in one of the worst prisons you could think of.
He becomes a prisoner but from his first day, it is clear he does not belong there. The fact is that his heart was not imprisoned; the prison had his body but clearly not his soul.
He befriends a well respected black prisoner whose major strength is to get anything for anyone at a reasonable price. Andys first request is for a hammer to shape rocks into chess pieces&
Over the next 20 year or so Andy becomes the financial consultant to the warders; a teacher to those who want to take exams; and he writes hundreds of letters to the local government to get a full fledged library for the prison. Anything to keep him from becoming irrelevant!
Some time soon, a 70 year old man who has spent over half of his life in prison is set free on parole. He begs not to be released because the prison has become his home and his life. Once on the outside he finds it impossible to cope and he hangs himself. The prisoners hear the news and affirm their belief that life is better in the prison.
Andy would have none of that. He continues to bid his time until one morning, the prison wakes up and Andy is gone. Who would have thought a small hammer could create a tunnel in the wall?
The moral of the story
Do not let your environment dictate who you really are. Do not do anything your heart tells you is wrong just because everyone is doing it.
Never give up;
Do not allow time destroy your God given dreams;
It is not over until it is over;
Keep holding on! With God it is never too late.
Stay Blessed!
