Fred Amata's Amazing Grace

Over the weekend I watched a Nigerian Film called Amazing grace directed by Fred Amata.

I understand it is the first 35mm Film by a Nigerian producer and is clearly international standard. The cast was made up of both foreigners and Nigerians including our own Joke Silva.

Amazing grace is the story of John Newton, a slave trader who was miraculously saved through what he called Gods amazing grace during a violent storm, and eventually renounced slavery and turned to religion. He later joined the fight to abolish slavery and also wrote the worlds most famous hymn, Amazing Grace, based on an African melody.

The scenes were shot in Efik and English.

Many people are turned off by the poor production and script writing of Nigerian films; so for me it was satisfying to see a Nigerian in the movie industry deliberately raise the bar in terms of standard of production.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend that you watch it. Let me know what you think.

Watched the film, and i think it's a good film particularly the quality of the picture, the actors interpretation of their roles and ofcourse the fact that it was shot in nija. It stands out from the clutter of poor quality pictures and storylines from nollywood.

I loved the movie Amazing Grace so much that I have seen it three times already. The photography was magnificent and the actors and costumes superb and the story very valuable. I will see it again too. Some of the actors had great speaking voices. The movie was well balanced in its moods and really made an impact. People clapped after it was over.
Can't wait to see Fred Amata's next movie
